All About Wooden Wine Racks

Author: Ellen Pedersen

The best wood wine racks need not be too expensive. And one of the best things about wooden wine racks is that you can stack one on top of another, which means you only need to buy additional racks as your wine collection grows over time.

The best wood wine racks come in all different kinds of wood. It depends on nothing more than your preferences....for example, you can purchase cedar ones, pine ones, or ones made out of fir, just to list three examples.

Of course, all of these wood wine racks have their own distinct advantages. Cedar can be easily stained or painted in case you want to make your wooden wine racks suit a certain decor. Pine wine racks are very strong because of the close grain of the wood.

In comparison to metal wine racks, the best wood wine racks have one major advantage: wood does not conduct heat as metal can. Wine is very fickle. If you store it for long periods of time measured in months or years, heat is often conducted from the metal to the bottle, and can alter the taste of the wine unfavorably.

This is why many serious long term wine collectors stick to wood wine racks. Who wants to store precious bottles of expensive wine for a special occasion only to discover the wine's flavor has become worse, not better?

When it comes to price, a decent wood wine rack need only set you back 50 or 60 dollars and will give you much pleasure and functionality for years. If your collection becomes large, you can buy stackable ones. You can store wood wine racks in a wine cellar or right out in the open for your visual appreciation.

But make sure you store your wine away from light sources if you don't plan to drink it within a few days.
