Vitamin B

Vitamin B is a complex of several vitamins for example B1, B6 and B12, therefore it is also known as the B complex. The B complex group comprises of vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. Vitamin B1

Deficiency of B2 may cause skin rash, anxiety, inflammation of eyelids and tongue. Studies suggest that excessive use of alcohol may reduce the absorption rate of the vitamin.

Vitamin B3

This vitamin is also referred to as Niacin. Natural sources of the vitamin include chicken, egg, fish and nuts. Niacin helps in the blood circulation and synthesis of sex hormones. It is also very important for the nervous system. Its deficiency may lead to tongue swelling and inflammation, dermatitis and diarrhea.

Vitamin B5

This vitamin is less popular in the B complex. It is also known as Pantothenic acid. Deficiency of this vitamin may lead to Paresthesia.

Vitamin B6

It is also called Pyridoxine. It is found naturally in nuts, shellfish, fish, legumes and cereal grains. It is very important for the immune system; it helps in production of antibodies and red blood cells. It helps in the production of hydrochloric acid and metabolism of fats. Excessive use of alcohol may cause Pyridoxines deficiency, which may cause muscle twitching, kidney stones, anaemia and insomnia.

Vitamin B9

B9 is also called folic acid. Natural sources of the vitamin include green vegetables, liver and yeast. This vitamin helps in the synthesis of DNA. It is also essential for the formation of hemoglobin. Studies suggest that its proper intake may reduce the chances of birth defects. Deficiency of folic acid may cause irritation in mouth and may lead to anemia.

Vitamin B12

This vitamin is also referred to as Cyanocobalamin. It is found in eggs, dairy products and fish. B12 is essential for the formation of red blood cells. It is also required for the proper functioning of nervous system. Deficiency of B12 may lead to anaemia and defects in nervous system.
