Creative Baby Shower Theme

Author: Jennifer McCleary

Theme parties are becoming very popular, and why not? They are fun, and usually easier to plan because you have a main idea to follow. Just make sure that when choosing a theme, once you pick something, stick with it. Just remember it is possible to go overboard, so keep everything relevant to your theme. Otherwise, pick something and then let your creative juices flow.

I have outlined one of my favorite themes below. You will find the theme idea as well as menu, game, decoration, and favor ideas.

One of my favorite baby shower themes is a tea party. Tea parties are something that all little girls do, and its still as much fun to play and have tea parties as adults. There are many different directions you can take with this. Here are a few ideas that I have tried.

Tea parties are usually fancy, so I gather up as many play dress up clothes as a can. Anything from tiaras, to feather boas, fake pearls, gloves, silly hats, anything that you can find that will remind you of playing tea party when you were a little girl. As guests arrive, I have them pick a few key pieces for their ensemble.

If you do not have access to dress up clothes, ask each guest to wear something that they find to the party. It is always fun to see what people come up with!

To decorate, I set up small, round tables with white, or light pink table clothes. In the center I have a small, play tea set and a tray of tea cookies, or scones.

For the menu I like to set out trays of tea cookies, scones, and finger sandwiches. I usually have a buffet set up and then also set out bowls of nuts and pastel dinner mints. This makes a pretty arrangement and is theme appropriate.

As guests arrive I have them set at the tables and then I usually have a few friends that I ask to serve tea to the ladies as they come and set.

For game ideas I love to do silly relay races. Divide everyone up into groups and then do relay races. Some of my favorite are to have the ladies put a spoon in their mouth (with the handle side in their mouth) then place a sugar cube on the end of the spoon. Each lady has to run down to a cone and then back and pass the sugar cube off to the next person in line.

It is ridiculously silly to see a bunch of grown women running around in dress up clothes with spoons in their mouth! This is always good for a laugh and everyone loves it!

For favors I like to send home a small box or bag with a piece of one of the tea sets, a few tea bags, and sugar cubes, and a note thanking them for coming. This theme has always worked great for me. Everyone likes to revert back to child hood and act silly!
