How To Avoid Confrontation

Author: Virginia Waters

Crime is a big problem nowadays. So it's important that you understand how to protect yourself in dangerous situations. Look in any newspaper and you'll see stories about rape, armed robbery, carjacking, etc.

So what can you do if you find yourself in a threatening situation?

Do as much as you can to avoid confrontation. If you get caught up in a situation, try to talk to an aggressor without provoking them. One of the best ways to do this is to lower your voice---so that they must listen carefully to what you are saying. Speak calmly and slowly so as not to provoke more anger and hostility from the aggressor.

Here's a good technique I learned that will be of great benefit to you! Practice relaxation, because appearing fearful or stressed can actually provoke an attacker. You may not be aware of it, but your body language is important in aggressive situations. So if you can be relaxed and calm, put a comfortable distance between you and the aggressor.

A proven way to disorient an attacker is by using a gas or electronic attack alarm that creates a short piercing sound. Carry it on you where you can get to it quickly. Don't leave it buried in the bottom of your purse! If you don't have a personal alarm, just make as much noise as you can, as loud as you can, and shout "Call The Police". You'll be surprised at how this simple method can scare off an attacker. The last thing that attackers want is to draw attention to themselves. Even if you do have a personal alarm, make sure that you scream and holler also. This bit of advice just might save your life!

P.S.

Our family hopes that you and your family will always be safe!
