Many have noticed the Socialist Movement in the United States, where the government becomes the sole provider. Those involved in the movement believe that Capitalism may some day no longer exist, yet I hate to consider the other current options as they have all proven worse. Take the French Riots and socialism or those who live in fear of dictatorship in North Korea or the old Soviet Union, equal pay for equal work regardless of ability, thus lack of incentive. Some groups of people who do not understand the Ayn Rand Affect and do not study history may in fact liken some of the freebies promised by socialism, yet once they get there and see it is all a lie, it is hard to go back to the strength and will of the individual who has given up their self to a provider who does nothing but fall short over and over again. Just because we say everyone is equal does not mean they are. Perhaps we are all born with similar genetics and all have the ability to make up for our minor differences, but the reason capitalism works is it rewards winners and thus provides incentive to the next. In fact as Plato rightfully puts it in his Republic different folks are good at different things and each person should do what they are best at and be alleviated from those things, which they are not good at. Then the whole of the civilization is best served with the maximum potential output. Makes sense right? Unfortunately Socialism has no place for such obvious lines of reasoning. Consider this in 2006. |
