Tropical Storm Alberto Gives Florida a Dry-Wet Run Practice Drill

Author: Lance Winslow

Luckily Tropical Storm Alberto did not deliver the 30 inches of rain to Florida that it did to The Grand Cayman Islands with severe flooding there. In fact Florida, which is at a current annual deficit of rainfall this year, so far only got an inch or two throughout the Great Sandbar State. Many folks are very glad indeed.

For FEMA and the State of Florida many say this was a good practice drill or a "Dry Run" so to speak, well actually a wet run, but not a super soggy flooding one. All this is good news for Florida and FEMA which both say that they are nearly prepared for the 2006 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season, which lies ahead.

Some were calling Tropical Storm Alberto the "Ultimate Illegal Alien" but this year there are several Hispanic sounding names in the Hurricane Season line up and surely a few of those will be biggies as long-term weather forecasters say that this season will be a tough one, maybe not as destructive and devastating as the 2005 Atlantic Tropical Season, but it is said to be close.

Still no one knows for sure what this Tropical Hurricane Season will bring, it could be much worse or perhaps not. Time will tell and all the authorities and folks are mentally and physically preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Meanwhile NASA's new weather satellite is helping tremendously and that means better tracking data and early warning systems to save souls. Consider all this in 2006.
