Reading Tarot Cards

Author: Jason Gluckman

Reading tarot cards is not easy - there are many decks and many different spreads (or ways to throw and interpret the cards). But before you go on to learn these rather complicated things, you must first learn the basic meanings of each major tarot card. Here's a rundown.

The Fool. This card symbolizes infinite possibilities and brand new beginnings, but it also carries a warning as well. It is a reminder to be careful about decisions.

Magician. This card symbolizes creativity, willpower, and desire. It suggests that a vision, an idea, or a solution to a problem is forthcoming.

High Priestess. The High Priestess represents knowledge that is instinctual, supernatural, and sometimes clandestine. When you get the High Priestess, you are bound to learn some very odd things in the near future.

Empress. The card is a symbol of creation, and usually signifies either pregnancy, a new romance, or new business.

Emperor. The card symbolizes someone who is direct, impatient, demanding, guileless, controlling, and sometimes tyrannous. The card also signifies leadership.

High Priest. The purpose of the high priest is to "bring the spiritual down to Earth," and usually symbolizes harmony and peace amidst a predicament.

Hanged Man. This is a card not about death, but about suspensions and postponements. It reminds the reader to meditate, become selfless, and make sacrifices. It means that things will continue on after some time, but that for now, a delay may be best.

Lovers. This card symbolizes growth and maturity, and also of surrendering control to a higher power (such as love for another person, for a career, or for a challenge).

Moon. This card symbolizes visions, illusions, intuitions, and anything connected to sleep, dreams and nightmares. It warns of hidden enemies or tricks. It also warns of emotional and mental trials.
