Native Americans first settled in Sedona, Arizona, about 6000 years ago. The Hopi Indians, for instance, lived in caves and grew enough food to sustain themselves. Considering Sedona doesnt average much yearly rainfall, this is no small feat. The first white settlers appeared in and around Sedona in 1876. In 1902, when T.C. Schnebly opened up Sedonas first post office and began delivering mail, there were about twenty families inhabiting the area. Schenblys wifes first name was Sedona, which is what he named his post office and town.

Sedona became a heaven for artists around the 1950s and even today is home to many creative and eclectic types. Here are some interesting facts about Sedona:

- The average temperature is 75 degrees.
- Sedona is located approximately 120 miles from Phoenix.
- Average annual rainfall is about 17.15 inches.

- The distance from Sedona to Washington DC is 2048 miles.
- The average household income is 65,000
- 51% of Sedonas 19 square miles are owned by private landowners.

The rest is owned by the Coconino National Forest.
- The highest point is Coffee Pot Rock at 5600 feet.
- The lowest point is Oak Creek at 4,000 feet.
- Sedona is visiting by about two to four million tourists each year.

Sedona has something for everyone. Visitors to this area can enjoy hiking, shopping, art galleries, fine hotels and restaurants. One can rent a jeep or play tennis or golf. Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross or take in the beauty of Red Rock State Park. Increase your spiritual grown and personal enlightenment at one of the towns Energy Vortexes or take a take a jeep tour and admire your surroundings.
